Writing in Global Contexts

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Writing in Global Contexts is a rigorous course in the writing and rhetoric department that studies the use of English across cultural landscapes. Students gain experience in evaluating texts, utilizing diverse language practices and writing with global audiences in mind.

Globalization, transnationalism and the circulation of texts across the world demand that 21st century citizens and writers develop complex language literacies to communicate rhetorically, ethically, and humanely with the world.

COMPOSING FOR A GLOBAL AUDIENCE

A large part of writing requires a cultural consciousness about the world and acting as a critical linguist. Being a critical linguist means “seeking not only to describe language and its socio-cultural rules, but doing so within a paradigm of language for social transformation.” The topics below explore globalization and its relationship with the English language.
