About Me

FACILITATOR. COMMUNICATOR. TIRED PERSON.

I'm an Orlando native, a transfer and first-generation college student, runner, pianist, social media curator, film fanatic, and perpetual nap taker.

Above all, I'm a writer who enjoys penning my thoughts about community, health, and political engagement.

LET ME EXPLAIN MYSELF..

I grew up in a world of stories.

As an only child, I found that I often spent my time creating them for myself based on what I observed from the world around me. I wanted brothers and sisters and someone to share memories with, but then my parents dropped me off at the public library and I was content with the cool things going on in books, magazines, and newspapers.

As I got older, my love of stories turned into a love of storytelling. When I was a teenager I received a DSLR camera and started taking pictures of everything, convinced there was a story in every shot. Immersed in technologies involving graphic arts and narratives, I was introduced to InDesign at school and thought I had found the secret to the universe. I became the editor-in-chief of my high school yearbook in the tenth grade when my teacher abandoned my publishing class in the middle of a photoshoot to become a men's fashion designer. "Good luck", she texted me.      "I think you can handle this."

With the help of my classmates, I did. We published a yearbook that year. Was it flawless? Not a chance. However, the experience introduced me to something I hadn't realized about myself yet: I loved to write, and I thrived on writing from the perspectives of others. Since then, my goal has always been to become the type of versatile writer that you could drop in any context and find a rhetorically sound way out. Though I love writing about science, technology, politics, and culture – I'm never happier than when I'm writing about people doing and fighting for the things they're passionate about.

My career path has taken me from a bartender at Miller's Ale House, where I learned to observe the complexities of patron behavior that help translate into my work as a writer; to an intern in the Florida Senate, where I gained insightful experience within the public relations realm of the legislative branch; to a communications and marketing assistant for UCF Downtown, a 60-million dollar project and a milestone as Florida's first university within walking distance to an urban core. Under all of these identities lies my love for storytelling and for seeking out the elements that allow people to connect with the world.

I write because I love to discover. Whether it's uncovering the best possible medium of expressing messages creatively, carefully constructing a position statement for an organization, or finding the words to describe the complex events that happen in our lives – all meaning must be delivered.

As Ray Bradbury said –

"Let the world burn through you. Throw the prism light, white hot, on paper."
