Political discourse has tanked across nearly all social media sites. On sites like Facebook, complete strangers are willing to hurl insults and slurs at each other, damaging themselves and the issues they care so deeply for. Our heuristic provides a guideline for social media users to follow in order to have an appropriate and productive conversation. It lists four fallacies that are often seen when these types of arguments occur, and shows how to avoid them. By following our heuristic, users will be able flip the discourse from its current toxic state.

Our heuristic is unique in that it uses the hit Netflix show Stranger Things to convey the message. In using Stranger Things, our group hopes to think critically about arguing against and with a demagogue-like mindset. We want our audience to engage with the piece, share it, and use it as a standard for their social media interactions.
